There are memories of our past that we can’t completely forget. Like walking through the beach as the sun sets, collecting shells and enthusiastically looking at how pretty they were. But time and distance are enemies of the mind. They have formed blackouts in my thoughts of those times long ago. It’s like I can only see these precious memories through window panes, and the rest is just too dark to see. My homeland will always be a tremendous part of who I am, but details of it fade away as the window panes narrow my field vision. Lagunas is a piece meant to show that there is beauty in every place, and we only distance ourselves from those places as a sacrifice for a better life. It is a reminder of the pain we face when we can’t go back, both mentally and physically, to the moments we cherish so profoundly.
